FSG is delighted to share the exciting news of being awarded a grant from Innovate UK. This funding will support the NHS Net Zero Research Project, a collaborative initiative with Nottingham Trent University’s Product Design Team focused on developing net‑zero, user‑centric reusable packaging to replace the single‑use disposables currently used in NHS hospital patient feeding. The core objective of the project is to deliver systemic change, transitioning from disposable to reusable packaging across a diverse array of stakeholders. Anticipated outcomes include the development of user‑centred reusable packaging products and systems, substantial reductions in CO₂ emissions, significant financial savings, and a considerable decrease in waste disposal.
Additionally, FSG is taking a leadership role in a doctoral school at Strathclyde University. This initiative aims to explore the social dimensions of reusable plastics, with a specific focus on messaging and behaviour change, particularly within hospital settings. This collaborative effort, in conjunction with the overarching research project, will incorporate multifaceted strategies aimed at reducing single-use packaging, encompassing patient, visitor and staff feeding in NHS and Healthcare foodservice settings.
We are committed to advancing sustainable practices in healthcare and other food service settings and are proud to be at the forefront of these impactful research activities
